Finance & Budget is excited to launch the Business Officer 101 training program in EDGE Learning.
This program is designed to support employees who contribute to finance-related business functions by providing a cohesive understanding of university financial systems, transaction processes, and operational best practices.
What is Business Officer 101
The Business Officer 101 training program is a foundational training offering for employees who handle day-to-day business office tasks. Whether you are new to the university or an experienced staff or faculty member, this program provides a comprehensive overview of essential business operations.
The training combines existing and new courses, including six required courses that cover core business operations, along with additional optional offerings that allow employees to build on their knowledge and strengthen compliance practices. The optional coursework allows for supervisors and employees to build out a customized training package that is catered to their specific job functions.
Each required training in this program only needs to be completed once. If you have already finished one of the included courses, you will automatically receive credit and do not need to retake it.

Additional, optional courses

Who is Eligible
Any university employee is eligible to complete the Business Officer 101 training program. However, employees within the Organizational Administration or Finance job functions and employees within the Administrative Operations job family at all levels or with Role 54 provisioning in UAccess Financials will have this training program automatically added to their EDGE Learning profile. Those individuals will receive a notification from EDGE Learning when the training has been assigned to them.
While the training is not mandatory, Finance & Budget highly encourages those assigned to complete this course to strengthen their operational knowledge and alignment with university best practices. Regardless of their experience, this program offers employees an opportunity to reinforce foundational knowledge and learn about recent developments in daily business operations.
Once enrolled, employees will have a 90-day window to complete the training program before it shows as overdue in EDGE Learning, but the course can be completed at any time before or after the 90-day completion window.
Tips for Training Success
Completing an online training with multiple modules can take time and focus. Here are some helpful tips and tricks to stay on track and get the most out of your experience:
- Plan Your Training Time: Block small chunks of time on your calendar instead of trying to do everything at once. Treat training like a meeting to protect that time from interruptions.
- Prioritize Modules Strategically: Begin with modules most relevant to your current role, or start with “quick wins” (shorter modules) to build momentum.
- Use Breaks and Natural Work Lulls: Fit in modules during quieter parts of your day—before meetings, after deadlines, or between projects.
- Pace Yourself & Set Milestones: Set realistic weekly goals such as completing one module per week.
- Manage Energy & Breaks: Avoid training fatigue by spacing out sessions. Take a short break after each module to stay fresh.
